Running a Company in Thailand Bangkok

Running a Company Thailand Bangkok

There are many reasons why you should do business in Thailand and there are many success stories as well. But don’t forget that you are in a different country with a different culture. Thailand is global minded and the business culture here is constantly adjusting and becoming more international, but there are differences that are important enough to keep in mind.

When running a company in Thailand, the most important written rules to live by are the ones in our guide sections labeled:

Labor Issues and Tax Matters

Now lets talk about the unwritten rules. I will list a few important items to remember.

* In whole of Asia, including Thailand, things are done ‘reasonably’. If you plan to run your business with an iron fist, your chances of success are zero. Showing strong emotions will not work, unless of course you have something to celebrate. In Asia, the boss is ‘really’ the boss and needs to instill a sense of calm urgency in the company. A boss can only lose respect, so if you start out right and keep it that way, you will be ok.

* ‘Losing face’ is a big thing in Asia. This means that you should never single out one particular person in a group and criticize him or her. Not even in a staff meeting. When someone has made a mistake, get it resolved, don’t immediately start looking for the person to blame. Better yet, consider it was your mistake. After all, you might have just failed to explain the rules or procedures correctly. Get over it and take steps to avoid the same mistake.

* Have a sense of humor. Many things will surprise you and unless you have a sense of humor, you will be venting your frustrations in the gym a lot more than you planned to (which isn’t a bad thing anyway). All I can say is to do your homework, when it comes to the way Thais do business.
